Fireball

Animation

A fireball rapidly decends as it glows red, orange and yellow.

A fireball is a meteor which appears brighter than most. The chemical components of a meteor determine it's hue. Nitrogen and oxygen appear red. Sodium appears orange-yellow.

This animation, representing a fireball, was originally generated with HTML5 radial gradients, global composite operations and global alpha. The lighter global composite operation allows each radial gradient to render brighter colors over the preceding fireball. In other words, each ball appears brighter than the one before it.

Frame screenshots were saved then composed with After Effects, for the final animation.

More Realism

Some random coordinates and colors would make the effect more realistic. Allow the fireball to drop inconsistently in both size and location.
