Burning City

Flames surround a city as the camera circles the outskirts. This animated GIF required a few steps with 3ds Max and After Effects.

The 3ds Max fire effect wouldn't render with the large number of vertices required for multiple meshes which defined the city buildings. Therefore two renderings were prepared. One rendering of the city and another rendering of the fire. Both renderings use the same camera and path. First with 3ds Max, render animated GIF frames, with an alpha transparent background of the city. Second with 3ds Max, render animated GIF frames of an animated fire, mapped to a sphere. Third composite the frames with After Effects. Last apply Wave Warp and Gaussian Blur effect controls to the city only.
